Biologic Dentistry
Dental materials chosen with whole-body health in mind
We don’t just treat teeth; we treat the person attached to them. By using non-toxic materials and minimally invasive techniques, we protect your smile and your systemic health.
What is Biologic Dentistry?
Biologic dentistry looks at how oral health, material choices, bite, airway, and overall health work together.
This means taking a thoughtful, conservative approach to care. We use biocompatible materials, recommend treatment carefully, and make sure patients understand their options before moving forward.
At The Airway Dentists, biologic care also includes an airway assessment. Routine visits go beyond checking for cavities alone—we also screen for signs that breathing, sleep, or oral function may be affecting long-term health.
Low-Radiation Imaging
We use digital X-rays and 3D CBCT imaging when clinically appropriate, with attention to getting the information we need without unnecessary exposure.
Conservative Repair
When a tooth needs treatment, we aim to preserve healthy tooth structure and choose durable, tooth-colored materials whenever they are the right fit.
Mercury-Free Materials
We do not place silver amalgam fillings. If you have existing metal fillings, we can evaluate them and talk through appropriate replacement or referral options based on your situation.
Prevention Over Intervention
The best dental care often starts before bigger problems have a chance to develop.
For Children
We focus on growth, breathing, and early patterns. By catching narrow arches, mouth breathing, or other airway concerns early, we can often help prevent more complex orthodontic or sleep-related issues later on.
For Adults
We focus on inflammation, stability, and long-term health. By supporting gum health and addressing oral conditions early, we help reduce the risk of more complex dental and systemic problems over time.
What Biologic Care Looks Like
This approach shapes the materials we use, the restorations we recommend, and the preventive options we offer.
- BPA-free materials: We use only biocompatible, BPA-free composite resins for fillings and sealants. This ensures that no harmful chemicals leach into your body over time.
- Biomimetic crowns: When a tooth is damaged, we use high-strength porcelain designed to support the function and appearance of natural enamel.
- Fluoride alternatives: We respect your choice. For families who prefer a fluoride-free approach, we offer preventive options such as hydroxyapatite-based sealants.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between biologic and traditional dentistry?
Biologic dentistry is a philosophy of care. We still provide familiar dental services like exams, cleanings, fillings, and crowns, but we pay close attention to material choices, airway signs, inflammation, and how treatment decisions may affect the rest of the body.
Do you use fluoride?
Our default approach is fluoride-free whenever possible, including our prophy paste and many preventive products. We do not push topical fluoride. We do keep a few fluoride-containing options available for specific clinical needs, such as SDF for small cavities or certain expander cements, and we talk through those options before using them.
Is biologic dentistry covered by insurance?
Many routine services, such as cleanings, fillings, and crowns, are billed using standard dental codes. Coverage depends on your specific plan and benefits, and our team can help you understand what may apply before treatment.
